Time to start something new…

A new start – 2018, may it be magical for you.

… another new start…

I am honoured to have been chosen as one

of the two Reed Cooper Bursary Recipients for 2018.

The Reed T Cooper Bursary in Visual Arts has been established under the auspices of the Dufferin Arts Council’s (DAC) Artist Support Program to honour the artistic achievements of Reed T Cooper and his many contributions to the local arts community*.

The bursary is awarded annually to a mid- career visual artist(s) in Dufferin County who has been working professionally for a minimum of five  years, and who displays a unique talent and a potential for excellence.

The Selection Committee is comprised of a member of the Cooper family, immediate Past President of the Dufferin Arts Council Board, a working artist from Dufferin County not applying for the bursary and the recipient(s) of the previous year’s bursary.

I will continue to paint my buildings, people but specifically of the Dufferin County  – landmark buildings in this area, people in the Dufferin County, past and present;  people that make a difference, that may be a politician, active citizen or the person that serves me my coffee.

I want to create ‘snapshots’, to record Dufferin history through these paintings. Create more awareness for the area and the building/businesses that I paint – e.g. Stanton Store, Jelly’s Bakery, moose at Dragonfly are a few that I have already completed. I hope to create a curiosity for people to visit these sites creating more traffic, more awareness.

I plan to share my progression and my growth  with an audience by showing these works in my studio space at Dragonfly, downtown Orangeville.

I am working with the local art store  Maggiolly’s to create a workshop planned for Spring 2018 on how to look at the everyday in Dufferin County and capture it. A portion of the fees will be donated to the DAC Art In The School Program, a program dear to my heart – keeping all the arts alive in the schools! (DAC Art In The School Program)

I am very excited about this project and eager to get  going!

Two of the scene paintings have already sold, but I will have pictures displayed to show samples of the project in my Dragonfly studio space. I hope that you will drop by in the New Year and we can talk more about it!
